In August, Myanmar’s new leader Aung San Suu Kyi travelled to China to meet her counterpart, President Xi Jinping. She had chosen Beijing for her first visit to a major capital since taking power at the start of the year and everyone had something to say about it. Especially on Facebook.

Thant Myint-U, the Yangon-based writer, historian and heritage conservationist, weighed in with a well-timed archival photo. He spends a few minutes each day thinking about what to post, and it’s often a reference, however indirect, to current events.
