
Soe Soe Lwin was sitting in her car in Tarmwe’s crowded Kyaukmyaung neighbourhood shortly before 10am on 8 June when the gunmen fired two bullets at almost point-blank range. Within minutes, photos of her lifeless body slumped over the wheel were spreading on social media, along with comments like ‘Go to hell’.
Soe Soe Lwin had been appointed to oversee Kyar Kwet Thit ward shortly after the coup, when the regime began replacing administrators elected under the National League for Democracy government.
