As Thailand is locked in a cycle of election, crisis and coup, there are encouraging signs that, culturally at least, it is making strides towards being a normal country.
One of these strides is personified by the writer Prabda Yoon. But to call Prabda merely a writer would be to short-change him and to deny his status in Thailand as a cultural hero and, according to the Bangkok Post, “the voice of a new generation on the Thai literary scene”. He is also a filmmaker, graphic designer, artist, magazine editor, screenwriter as well as a music producer and songwriter. He is the translator of Western writers such as Nabokov, Burgess and Salinger. He even runs a bookshop.
