
Pune, Maharashtra, was home for some years in the late ’90s. I insisted on calling it Poona because that was its old colonial name. Ever since the ’60s, when my older cousins left to study in Poona, I had longed to see the city. Finally my doctoral research took me there, as the University of Poona could accommodate what I wanted to work on — cultural translation.
