The Untouchable

 

“No Untouchable worth the name will be proud of this land.” BR Ambedkar

 

The day the flu took Mandal, I was in town a couple miles away.

And his death was hidden from me till long after his soul

settled down as silt. Dressed in dust-coloured khakis

and a cotton newsboy cap, he’d driven Father to school as a kid
